Danish oil and other oil-based finish products leaves a nice matte luster while maintaining the look and feel of the texture in wood grain. You can use a piece with this finish like a cutting board, it will be gentle on your knife edges, and it will likely leave some small marks. Danish oil is safe for use with food. You can wipe on a little Danish oil, available at Home Depot, to restore the finish if time and use impacts the appearance.
